What a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to learn about sweet fractions! In our Math in Focus curriculum, 4^th grade is currently learning about fractions and how to add and subtract them. To practice this, 4^th grade students were given candy hearts in groups of 2 and were asked to find different fractions. Students had to figure out what fraction of their candies were a certain color. They then had to count out a number of candies and determine what number would be ¼ of the candies, 1/3 and so on. The best part for them was not just the reinforcement of learning fractions but also eating them when they were finished!
