First Grade Reader’s Theater

District Strategic Goal#1: Continuously Improve Student Growth and Achievement

A group of first grade students spent the last two days performing their Reader’s Theater scripts for their classmates. Students spent two months learning their parts, creating props, and practicing their plays. Mrs. Donavan served as an excellent director to all of our actors. Students did an excellent job as performers and enjoyed seeing literacy come to life!

Reader’s Theater is a research-based instructional strategy to improve reading fluency, prosody, expression, and confidence. Reader’s Theater is a dramatic presentation of a written work or book in a theatrical script form. Readers read from the script and parts are divided. There is no required memorization, costumes, staging or special lighting required: Just reading practice in a fun and engaging way!
